Get to know the Salento landscape on foot
Tired of the usual idea of vacation? Tired of the daily routine? Are you feeling nostalgic for contact with nature? So, take a nice hike. What is a better destination than the most authentic and unspoiled Salento?
Between Gallipoli and Otranto there are many paths suitable for walking, alone, with family or friends. There are all levels and all types.
An ideal place for long walks relaxing in nature is certainly the Costa Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca Natural Park. Accompanied by the sea breezes that caress the coast you will find country roads from the most inaccessible to the busiest, immersed in the Mediterranean, and between myrtle, laurel and olive trees, you will find lots of relaxation and a lot of inner harmony.
A truly original route is the path of the shrubbery between Orte and Palascia, along which it is possible to find local flora such as the shrubby thymus. On the way to the lighthouse of the Palascia, where there is a permanent ecological observatory and a naturalistic museum, from where you can admire a beautiful landscape. It will be possible to glimpse species of peregrine falcon and falcon of the queen.
For the more adventurous starting from Otranto, you can take the Idro valley to reach Palmariggi and then Maglie, where you can admire the beauty of the city. From here, through the countryside, we skirt the lake of the “Signureddhra”, until we reach Montegrappa and finally finish in Torre Sabea, in Gallipoli.
These are just some examples of wonderful nature trails. There are hundreds and hundreds of trekking routes designed for you. It’s not easy to describe all the hiking trails that you can find in Salento, but what we assure is that whatever you choose , it will still be a good choice and you will not be disappointed. The sea, the dense vegetation, the sheer cliffs and the lighthouses, the coastal towers, the caves, the pajare, the butterflies, the nightingales, the flowers … every element of the landscape will allow you to forget the frenzy of everyday life and bring you back in contact with nature.
